Tour Overview

Despite chilly temps and breezy conditions, we had a fine turn out of folks representing Middletown, West Chester, and Liberty Township Historical Societies, as well as Mill Creek Alliance and the West Chester Photo Club. Over the morning 3 1/2 hours we visited several Miami & Erie Canal remnant sites within Butler County and one in Northern Hamilton County. A USB Drive Digital Tour Book containing County historical data and images of the canal path and tour sites was provided to each tour participant at the Richard's Pizza tour lunch site when the tour was completed.

Highlights of the tour were the 2 remaining complete locks, one at Lock 38 South and the other at Excello Lock 34 South. Especially significant were the marvelous arrangements made by the Middletown Historical Society in getting the Lock 34 property cleaned up, and the lock site is now very visible from the road. A park is anticipated to be installed there.
