ANNOUNCING! – 2012 Spring Tour p;p;
“The P & O Canal – Gone But Not Forgotten”
( A tour dedicated to the memory of Bruce Norton and John Wunderle)
Presented by: The Canal Society of Ohio – March 30, 31 and April 1,2012
Tour the mysterious Western Division of the P & O canal by luxury coach.
Starting in downtown Akron at the junction of the P & O and the O & E, we will follow along the course of the canal through Akron, stopping to see the remains of the Middlebury Branch Canal. We will proceed up the incline to Cuyahoga Falls, Monroe Falls, Kent, and Ravenna. A hot, hearty lunch will be served at the modern VFW/AL hall near the Stow-Kent shopping center. A good time will be had by all, despite any lingering winter weather.
Friday: Meet and Greet and Preview Slide Presentation by knowledgeable CSO members at the headquarters hotel, the Comfort Inn at I-76 and Rt. 43.
Saturday: Bus tour of the western division of the P & O and MB canal.
Saturday Night: Banquet with Mr. Steve Paschen, curator of the Kent State University archives, speaking on the history and influence of the P & O Canal on the economics of the region.
Sunday: Hike to some of the more inaccessible places on the canal, of which there are many.
