2016 Spring Tour  Announcement

“The Legacy of the WPA in Stark County”

 

 

 Get ready for the Spring event you will not want to miss. We will be touring many interesting, historically significant O & E Canal artifacts in Stark County Ohio on May 13, 14 & 15, 2016. A few of the things we will see north of Massillon are: Clinton guardlock, the WPA project constructions that resulted in: Canal Fulton’s boat ride  the St. Helena III (ride included),   Canal Fulton’s museum and St. Helena II display, rebuilt Lock # 4, Crystal  Springs (Cutler’s Grove), Diversion Dam. South of Massillon we will see: John Glen’s Grove, Navarre ‘s“Fishing Hole Flood Gate”, Mathew’s House Museum canal exhibit in Navarre with a mysterious canal artifact on the towpath nearby,  “Big Sluice” (?) in Pittman Park, New hike-bike bridge over the Tuscarawas River. (where the aqueduct stood), Bolivar’s new trail addition, The “Exploration Gateway” canal exhibit.

 

 Other details:

  Friday slide show by Larry Turner. Comfortable coaches by Lakefront Lines. Lunch at the FOE # 190 hall. Banquet with Meghan Reed of the Massillon Museum  speaking on Stark County and Massillon History involving the Ohio Canal at the FOE Hall (5 blocks from the headquarters hotel), Headquarters at the  Hampton Inn in downtown Massillon. Sunday hike (Location TBD).
